Family First

Remember when a stay at home mom was an assest and not a liability? Remember when businesses did not open on Sundays and closed up early on Saturday? Or when the work week ended at 3pm? These were the good ole days. When family meant something. Spending quality time didn't mean, spending large sums on money on vacations that noone enjoyed or getting your kid the latest XBOX or gameing system because Mike next door has one and he won't share.

Family time was taking walks together, eating together, and having board game nights as a family. Children wanted to learn the family business and wives actually enjoyed cooking from scratch and trying out new receipes. Fathers actually spent more time with their children than they did on the golf course. Because not all business transactions take place on the golf course at the eighteenth hole.

Children were also very respectful to their parents and other older adults. They listened to wisdom and truely learned from others mistakes. Now people don't even have time for themselves, let alone family. Everyone wants to be a jetsetter or the next big star. People want more home space and less outdoor space which eliminates the ability to tell the kids to go out and play. Schools actually fought for the right the have afterschool sports and activities for kids.

Businesses had more incentives for employees to become active in volunteer activities. Churches even offered more outdoor activities, now they are more concerned with how many seats they can feel, because the state says they have to have a certain amount to account for or they will close them down.

The government use to work for the people and made sure that jobs stayed home so that men and women could fine work that they went to school for or learned a trade in. Now you have to have a passport and be willing to relocate at a moments notice. Who cares that the kids just made new friends and mom just found a great job. The Corporate boss says if you want to succeed in this life, you are going to have to forget about everyone else and focus on yourself. Caring is a luxury that doesn't work here.

I hope that some of us will take some time out to look over our lives and see if we made some wise choices. And for those who didn't, it's not too late.
